Nothing works on this app. It is totally broken.
Worthless
I frankly am quite tired of Microsoft and its apps, especially this one. I have a school account and have to go through all these differing layers that are not coordinated and it seems almost like deliberate sabotage by this company. Why not stay simple! Why all of these “hoops” simply to connect with the students. It seems as though technology has its own perspective and it does not include working with human beings. I used to be able to go straight to my classes and it seems every time things keep changing and I have to log in again and again and they “loose” my password. I am done.
Terrible-can’t do anything on this app
Seems pointless to have an app where you can’t access most of the functions or do grades. App developers should look at Canvas app and get with the program.
Who is this for? Not instructors obviously
The grading functionality on this is so bad. Honestly beyond bad. You’d think that it would take advantage of the capabilities of the Apple Pencil, but any stylus feature included feels like working with MS Paint on Windows 95 with a mouse. The comments written with this app in annotations don’t appear forcing me to use the web version to give student feedback. Everything is harder to navigate here because it’s just a squeezed version of the website. Seriously, this is just a jankier skin of the website. It just a sour cocktail of frustration and embarrassment. Who is this for? It sure isn’t for instructors...
Not useful for grading with annotations
I got this in order to grade quizzes on my iPad using an Apple Pencil. I had tried doing this through Safari, and found it awkward, so I was quite excited to see there was an iPad app. It turns out the app works just like in the browser: unlike something like GoodReader, it doesn’t notice you are starting to write, so you have to select freehand drawing, pick a new pen size, and so forth. Then the attempt as smoothing means there is no hope of writing mathematical notation with, for example, subscripts. I’m going to stick with asking students to just email me their quizzes. At this point the iOS defaults are so good for annotating and sending a reply that I don’t even need to export the attachments to another app. (I used to use GoodNotes for that.)
Ok, Could be great with minor tweaks
I use this app to grade homework on my iPad. It makes it possible for me to have a similar workflow to pencil and paper grading, while avoiding the headaches of keeping track of a stack of papers, which I love. I find the overall experience to be decent, with a few frustrations. First, the app needs better Apple Pencil support with palm rejection, because I constantly find myself having to erase stray marks. Which brings me to number two, switching between the pen and eraser tool takes too long, there should be a designated eraser button, and also support for the Apple Pencil double tap to switch. Finally, it should be possible to change the default pen color and size (the default size is too large), or even save multiple defaults. It should also be noted that the app attempts to “smooth” pen strokes, but often this does more harm then good, because letter shapes tend to get bungled.
Microsoft Blackboard is stuck in the ‘90s!
Microsoft’s Blackboard appears to be an afterthought to the main business drivers of Microsoft, despite the enormous cost to colleges and universities. Blackboard is still not fully functional on a tablet or smart phone devise for instructors. The app has very limited functionality and access to Blackboard from a web browser is a non-starter since one cannot scroll through fields, like grades assignments or individual students in grade book. I will be recommending my university move to a CMS that is built for today and tomorrow’s learners and instructors, not those from two decades ago.
