Triode - Internet Radio - パソコン用

The Iconfactory has a reputation for good design (they're not bad but I'm not sure they deserve the level they have) and I love radio so I decided to check this app out. The design is no tbad but I wouldn't say it is great either. There is one feature that I think is really great which is that there is a tone played on mobile devices to let you know it is doing sometning but hasn't got the stream yet. Beyond that there is nothing particularly remarkable about the app. Add to that the questionable wording of the license that "forever" equals approximately 3 years for a subsciption app that has received very few updates or enhancements since the initial release. For the money I would recommend the app Broadcasts which only has a one time purchase, offers more functionality, looks nicer (IMHO), works on all Apple devices that are supported and is updated more frequently than this app that asks for a subscription.

Looks promising but a few points need addressing before I would purchase the "forever" option. I would never, under any circumstance, pay a subscription fee for an app like this. 1. "Forever" ≠ "3 years". Be upfront about this if you know from the get go that you might abandon the app after three years. Guarantee that users can at least use their saved favorites across platforms (iCloud sync) permanently (or until Apple breaks the functionality, which is beyond your control). For example, Radium, which was abandoned years ago, syncs with iCloud to this very day 2. No menu bar icon, no way to hide the dock icon. Take a peek at the old "Radium" and improve on that. 3. No local NPR station for Richmond, VA? Come on Iconfactory, NPR Streams for state capitals at least ought to be a given. Once these items are addressed I'll be the first in line for a real "forever" purchese.

I want to like this app, the featureset is perfect for my use cases. I'm just not comfortable with the subscription model at the price point it's at. There is a $20 permanent fee, but it feels about twice as much as I'd like to pay for it. It essentially isolates a small part of something iTunes can do in a nice interface. There's value in that, the price point is just higher than I'm willing to pay.

I have been a fan of Icon Factory products since iPulse, which is still going strong. This app is simple but cleanly thought out. I did not think they could show album art as they do on some channels! And it is even in the desktop icon! iCoud sync works wonderfully as I build up my list. Gotta love CarPlay and Continuity support! Signed up to the big package. Such a deal. A true Apple ecosystem app.

While the number of internet radio stations continues to grow, the days of easy discovery are long gone. Triode fills that gap and adds much in the process. Up until a few months ago, you could play internet radio in iTunes - but it wasn’t a great experience. The station list was poorly maintained and missing lots of stations. With the recent update to Music on Mac and iOS devices, the bad situation has become even worse. iTunes no longer provides a list of internet stations. The new version of allows playing stations from services like iHeartRadio, TuneIn and Radio.com, but only if you know exactly what station you are looking for. There is no discovery, no saving favorites, and no apparent support for independent stations unless you know the exact streaming URL. Good luck with that. That’s where Triode comes in. It is a great internet radio player with solid discovery tools. Rather than throw users into a giant list, the app starts with about 30 well-curated stations as starting points. Search allows you to view and search thousands more stations and save favorites. Once you start playing a station, Triode shows art work from Apple Music or iTunes. The integration allows users to save great songs directly to playlists or add artists they love to listen later. Triode is supported on every Apple platform - Mac, iOS, MacOS, Apple TV. The subscription is optional - it unlocks high quality artwork and saving favorites - but one purchase works across all the platforms. Frankly I purchased it outright because I love what they’ve done for internet radio users. And if they add a few more picks to their initial 30, that’s just perfect with me.

I would have been all over this app last year. But now that Apple Music actually supports normal radio stations it's hard to justify keeping tracking of yet another subscription, however cheap.

So far I am loving Triode & its simplicity. 1 suggestion, maybe having the volume accessiblie album view when a station is playing. It would also be nice to see a "recently played" list of songs you can look back at. Lastly, I would pay $20 for a real "forever" plan, not forever aka 3 years.
