Kanoe Miller is one of our great modern hula dancers. If you are a dancer, the video lessons are helpful for the basics. The magazine has a great lineup of experts to write about culture and history. The multimedia aspects add so much. A must for any student of Hawaiian hula, music, history, or culture,

Does any to this describe you? --I play ukulele. --I have more gigs of Hawaiian music in my collection than I do Christmas tunes (and that’s saying a lot). --I’m enchanted when I watch dancers, including Kanoe Miller at the “House Without A Key” at the Halekulani. --I’ve taken a few beginning hula classes on various visits to the islands. —I pore over Hawaiian history/culture magazines and books. A “yes” to any of those and you need to poise your finger over the “Buy” button for HulaStudio Magazine. Purchase just this first edition—and I’ll be you’ll be back to buy a full subscription. The magazine works so well on my iPad (and I don’t even have the newest version). There are articles to read, photos to spend time with, music to listen to and videos. This first issue has vintage songs to listen to, some short video interviews, a historical article (“King David’s Gift to the World,” written by no less than Harry B. Soria Jr.) and an introduction to the Hawaiian language featuring an overview of “Hawai’i Aloha” with the meaning and pronunciation audibly presented by Puaka Nogelmeir (plus lots of other language resources). There’s even an article on plum aria as a hula dancer’s flower. My favorite part of the first issue are the videos of Kanoe Miller teaching an introduction to hula: basic hand motions, ka’o, kaholo, vamp, foot drills and more.
