Great but the pronunciations are hard to hear. It’s different learning a new language, so the smallest stuff makes it a lot harder. It’s like the audio quality isn’t the best, or I think they use text to speech. It’s particularly difficult to differentiate between gi and ji sounds

it was really helpful in learning the order of the strokes and sped up my memorization a lot :) also for the people saying its annoying that it tells you exactly the order of writing the characters, that how its supposed to be, theres a specific order to how you write them lol, its not annoying thats just how it is.

I’m fluent in Korean and I grew up there with Korean as my first language. I speak like a native and read like a native but I decided to try some Korean lessons made for English speakers just to see what’s out there and to see how well apps and websites like this one this teach the basics. I feel my review will be valuable any English audience, and to the people looking at this app. I’m a bilingual biracial Korean American who speaks, reads and writes both languages fluently like a native, so here is my input. I don’t like that they teach with the romanization, while it is somewhat important to know it’s really not necessary because I learned it and it actually slows down your reading because you keep trying to match the Hangul character with the English romanization and it’s a very bad habit I would not recommend picking up, it will negatively impact your ability to read in the future. I would recommend listening to audio clips of native speakers pronouncing and read along with Hangul lyrics when listening to music. I like that they start with showing you correct stroke orders (they’re correct, I know because it’s what I do naturally!) but at the same time I think they should start with pictorial images and words you memorize to make the sounds as well as a sound play button for pronouncing words. For example, putting the traditional Hangul word for book, “더서", and the image for 📚 would help people pick up these concepts and translations much faster. Translation is not a natural process and I can barely do it myself, it’s not a good way to learn a language. Obviously people put work into these apps and need a paycheck. I would never ask for a free lesson, there are lessons like that out there, some good and some bad. But this app seems unreasonably costly, and I think language education should be free and more open to an American audience. It’s rare to find Americans who speak Korean who are not kpop fans and actually speak the language well here. But I would not pay for this app as it does not seem worth the price, in its own way it feels like a game with a cash grab system. Just go online and you can find any free lesson. Lastly, while this app is good learning reading with it would be very hard. Same with your listening interpretation. It gives you very elementary building blocks that infants learn at a very early age, it’s too slow. Part of the Korean language success comes with a grind. So you have to work and read and fully immerse yourself in the content for years to learn. This is my advice to any American: do you want to learn a scientifically challenging language where you will never be able to get all of the sounds 100% right? Do you want to learn a language where you will never be able to catch all of the words in a song or all of the words on the news? Korean is a fast and hard language to interpret. So if you have many free hours please try to learn but if you just like Korean pop and are looking for a causal pastime study, this is not a good choice to pursue. This app is truly amazing! They start off with the alphabet, which is perfect for beginners. You do have to pay to learn, but I promise it’s totally worth it!

It starts with learning the alphabet combined. I recommend looking up the 24 characters individually first then coming to this app. It’s really good and to me it’s like a memory game. I also practice off the app too and go online too figure out tips on how to properly pronounce the words even though the app does a real good job in trying to make it easy to understand

I tried 5 or 6 apps for language learning — most need to offer their viewer a bit more instruction and prompting. This one is clear, non-gimmicky, and employees multiple learning styles to assist the student.

Love the app for learning Hangul, it has rapidly expedited my learning process - can we have progress synced between devices if possible though?
