This game is pretty good for beginners in GO
Poor AI makes for poor experience
My first game was a Medium-rank difficulty on a 13x13 board. The computer took a RIDICULOUSLY long time to calculate its moves -- roughly 50 seconds per turn -- even in the end game. It was also unintelligent with the end game, desperately playing inside territory I clearly owned, not giving up until no legal plays remained and my territory looked like a waffle. It took over one hour to complete the game. Just terrible. My second game was a Low-rank difficulty on a 9x9 board. I confirmed that the AI was much faster here -- roughly 3 to 5 seconds per turn -- but it came with the penalty of even worse stupidity. The AI ended up passing when it should not have and allowed the board to go from me owning 60% of the territory to owning 100% of the territory. Unacceptable. No matter how low the difficulty may be, it should at least know to fortify its position before passing. My third game was a Medium-rank difficulty on a 9x9 board. Once again, the AI took ~50 seconds per move. Absolutely unacceptable on a board of such small size. Rating the app 2/5 stars and not 1/5 stars simply out of respect for the craftsmanship in other areas, the lack of game-breaking glitches, etc. But this is a truly terrible app for any serious Go player. Would not recommend.
Force quit on me in the middle of a game
And the game didn't save... Otherwise it's alright. It's funny how the CPU takes so long to think on easy though. As in my other review on the main app, I still think that Gobandroid, which is also free, is much much better than this, but this is still the best on iOS.
