Display bug that’s still not fixed
There’s a display bug that shows periods instead of commas. Developer has been made aware of the issue over 6 months ago and still refusing to have it fixed.
Annoyed
Since the High Sierra upgrade, Calcbot substitues the commas in large numbers with periods. It is annoying and confusing, with no apparent solution. Previously, with just plain ole’ Sierra, this was my go-to calculator. I would hate to have to find another app, but I’ll be forced to, if this is not addressed.
Great App !
It’s always nice to find well made apps that become your go-to solution. Well thought out, simple in design but extemely flexible when it comes to available functions. There is a review that complains about the lack of currency available to convert, that is incorrect. If you go into the app's preferences menu you can select which currencies you want listed on the app itself, this is done this way to avoid an extemely long list of available currencies, which can become annoying if you are constantly working with only 2 or 3. This has become my daily app for calculations, as well as the one available for the iphone. Overall I highly recommend it.
Fast launching, full function, conversions
I just switched to Calcbot from PCalc. Calcbot is faster, much better looking, and more user-friendly.
CONVERT ALL THE THINGS!
So the app is beautiful. The app calculates numbers. Perfect. But I got this to convert numbers. When I first downloaded the app I was a little concerned because there didn’t seem to be a lot of conversion options. I WAS WRONG! By default, there’s only a limited number of convertion types accessible. Enable all of them by opening Preferences (CMD + ,) and click the Conversion Tab. From there you can enable and disable any units you need or want. There’s so many! There’s easily over 100 currencies alone. The Chinese Yuan is there. The Thai Baht is there. There’s even other Asian currencies like the Japanese Yen and the Hong Kong Dollar. The Singapore Dollar is there. The Indian Rupee is there. The South African Rand is there. It’s crazy. There’s units alone that I’ve never even heard of. The heck is a Shaku? It’s apparently a unit of area. Angles! Areas! Currencies! Data Rates! Data Sizes! Densities! Forces! Fuels! Illuminances! Lengths! Masses! Powers! Pressures! Radioactivities?! Standard Units! (I’ll be using that a lot!) Speeds! Temperatures! Times! Typographies! Volumes! Volumetric Flows! Works! Trust you won’t be disapointed in the number and diversity of units to convert. Another cool thing about this app is that you can define new constants via the Preferences Menu. By default you get 6 available to the Constants button (CST). But there’s a lot more already defined and available waiting for you to enable them. But you can also define your own constants! Need to have quick access to some number? BLAM! It’s right there at your fingertips. Spend the handful of dollars and speed up your work. You’ll sound smarter and your coworkers will be jealous of how you always know the right number to solve the problem at hand. You’ll be INDESPENSIBLE! Great app!
can’t easily edit expressions
I was surprised that the expression view isn’t editable. For instance, I would love to be able to select an operand and switch it to something else without deleting and retyping everything up till my mistake. The dots on the division symbol are so tiny I’ve accidentally hit that when I meant minus several times.
Only 10 currencies!
The app looks and works great but I still feel duped. The app boasts 500 units across 22 categories but nowhere here or on their website do they mention that they only give you access to 10 out of 180 world currencies. This is makes it mostly useless if you ever plan on converting currencies with it. No Chinese Yuan, no Singapore Dollar, Thai Baht, or any other asian currency for that matter. No South African Rand or even Indian Rupee.. Seriously? These are all major currencies and if an app claims to provide currency conversions, I expect them to be there (or to be explicitly excluded in the description). Unfortunately there are two currencies that I regularly need that are not listed so I really have little use for the app now.
