Great game but one annoying glitch
The game is awesome, I love it, but there is one glitch that makes it really annoying. Sometimes when I die, the screen goes black and I have to start a new one. Other that that, great game and hope that can be fixed.
No longer works after updating to iOS 9.
All I get is a black screen when I try to load it. iPhone 6 running iOS 9.0.2
Excellent update to make it 5 star
#1 - you can tap on your vamp to basically "pass" your turn and stay still. This lets the baddies keep moving around you. (Mitigated by update with arrows on baddies) #2 - pay attention to the way the baddies turn when they hit an object or eachother. I believe the slayers turn right and the priests turn left. #3 - only use your special powers to get out of a jam Since I discovered tips 1 and 2 the game lasts much longer. It's still a tough one and requires some cranial power. Very enjoyable. I finally finished - very enjoyable - great go to for a quick turn-based-puzzle-game-with-mild-RPG-elements
Great roguelike
Like Hoplite, but with vampires and stuff. Plus you have special powers on top of the perks you choose after each stage. Highly recommend.
My favorite app this month
It took me a few weeks to beat this game. The new updates with the turn indicators make it drastically easier. I'm not sure if I would have been able to do it without them, but I feel like they should be a powerup instead of just always given to the player. Maybe a reward for watching an ad to help you monetize more ;)
a nearly perfect distraction
I'm writing this after finally beating the game and am ecstatic. It was just hard enough and very well balanced, level generation was very fair, no decision could be taken for granted or done without consideration of the whole journey. The game doesn't cheat, it's completely deterministic. It's hard in the best way possible. Study the bestiary and look three moves ahead in your mind. I say nearly perfect because... * The power upgrades are not well balanced. -1? That's out of proportion. * It would be great if you could see your current upgrades while picking your next one. * I do love the turn guides that were added (though should probably be an option for those who want it harder) but I can't tell turn order at all in the quick game and that has cost me a lot (and did that preference disappear?). * The cut-off bottom of the globe in the middle of the screen when you start is super distracting given how much attention to detail the whole experience is. I don't think adding a new biome would ever be necessary. I'm very happy to have finished Vamp's story. I'd love to see what else this developer comes up with!
AI is too smart
Love the premise and graphics but the game mechanics favor the AI heavily. The small power ups in between grids are not that helpful because the computer opponent is always a step ahead of you. Very frustrating and keeps me from playing it. I'd recommend trying Hoplite it's a much more balanced game.
